Secrets Of The Royal Jewels
38m
This True Royalty Original show explores the fascinating history behind some of the Royal Family’s most iconic jewels. This programme traces the history of the Crown Jewels and uncovers why most of the coronation regalia is only 350 years old due to the outbreak of the English Civil War and the execution of Charles I in 1649 which saw key pieces destroyed and melted down for coin. One rare survivor is the silver-gilt coronation spoon, the oldest of all the regalia still in use which is thought to have been supplied to Henry II or Richard I in the 12th century. Host Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is joined by Helen Molesworth, Senior Curator of Jewellery at London’s V&A Museum and Anna Byers, Head of Bespoke Jewellery at 77 Diamonds who reveal, how, in addition to the Crown Jewels, members of the Royal Family have developed their own personal collections based on their taste, the fashion of the time and personal bequests from beloved family members.
